Gwen was exceptional to us. I accompanied my sister to her new patient appointment with the goal of finding a diagnosis. An IV was required to get the labs needed, and Gwen stuck with it (no pun intended!). My sister was an awful hard stick. Gwen took her time and made us feel like a priority. We knew she had so many other things that she probably needed to be doing, but she was never bothered or rude. She got her a snack and laid her down when she felt faint. She got heating packs when the veins weren’t cooperating. She got other nurses to help her out when needed. It was such a comfort to have her caring for my sister the way that I care for my patients. I wholeheartedly appreciate her as a nurse and as a compassionate person that made our trip worth the drive to Duke. She is an answered prayer at this University.
