Ha's patient was an elderly double amputee with little family support. He had a brother and sister who were out of town. Ha was instrumental in keeping them informed of the patient status and integrating them in the process of transferring her patient to hospice care on another unit. While items that they sent (balloons and flower bundles) were not allowed in his room, she made sure they were placed in his new hospice room such that he could see them. She was very compassionate and caring with the patient and his family. She provided thorough care with precision and comfort. The staff on the unit even recognized her contribution as the nurses who were paired with this patient often had a very complex busy patient that required more of their attention. They were glad that Ha had a connection with the family and patient to facilitate the transition to the palliative unit.
