She kept checking in with each of us assuring that the other was okay. She was taking pictures of us and sharing them with each other, assuring we were both fine.
Hailey deserves this award for so many reasons. She of course advocated for us and made sure our birth plan was followed to the tee. She helped my wife understand all the things to do while delivering and how to do them. But she deserves this award for what she did for us both after our baby was delivered. To say the least, my wife ended up hemorrhaging with 3 internal lacerations lining the length of her vaginal cavity. To quote the surgeons, "This is the worst tear I have ever seen". The tears were unreachable, and she was bleeding out. Doctors and nurses were calling extra surgeons but no one was available. The "chief" resident was in a total and unprofessional panic. Obviously, this was a terrible situation and as my wife was rushed away to emergency surgery, I was left thinking she was going to die.
This happened around 8:00 pm. Any other nurse would have rightfully pawned us off to the incoming nurse and been on her way. This was Hailey's last shift before spending a vacation in Puerto Rico yet she stayed for hours after her shift ended. My wife and I were naturally worried about the well-being of each other but when emergencies happen, feelings are put to the side. But Hailey made sure that they weren’t. She kept checking in with each of us assuring that the other was okay. She was taking pictures of us and sharing them with each other, assuring we were both fine. She was finding an answer to everything I asked. My wife was in surgery for nearly 3hrs and 2hrs in, Hailey came to me and our newborn and asked, “Can I stay and help in any way?” She didn’t say “Okay I’m leaving”. She was ready and prepared to put her own life on hold for my family. If all of this doesn’t make her a DAISY Nurse, I don’t know what does.
