I am a 66-year-old woman who is allergic to over 19 medications to include numerous antibiotics. I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis and have been cared for at various local ERs six times in the past year for my condition without successful treatment. In February of 2025, I arrived at the ER for diverticulitis symptoms, was admitted and assigned to the Infectious Disease and Orthopedic for 5 days. My story is not about medicine or medical technology, but of a nurse who exemplified the true meaning of caring--a characteristic lost in the medical profession.
Although the floor was extremely busy during my stay, Hailey was supportive through her calm demeanor and compassionate care, she helped me relax and cope with anxieties and concerns. I felt comfort and a sense of being genuinely cared for. She was patient, no matter how busy it was, she took the time to listen attentively to my concerns. Hailey paid attention to my comments, understood what I really needed, and provided feedback and responded to my needs appropriately.
I truly believed she had my best interests. She was kind, regardless of the atmosphere of the room, she always spoke words that expressed understanding and sympathy. Through politeness, humility, and kind words, she humanized me. She was thoughtful, constantly aware of my feelings and circumstances, my struggles and pain.
Hailey's unique ability to show care and compassion in treating my condition touched me. She made my day easier to deal with, bringing a smile to my face every time she entered the room. Present, completely engaged, and appreciatively connected with me, she was focused on our conversations, the task in hand, and not somewhere else. I felt like she truly cared about me as a person and not just a number. Nurse Hailey Nixon is truly a professional who is supportive, patient, kind, thoughtful, and present. She provided exceptional care to me in all settings and stages of my health. Hailey is the face of nursing.
