My Mother was taken from the top of a mountain by ambulance to Mission Hospital very early on the 4th of July. She was admitted and required surgery. On multiple occasions, Haiyoung Robertson was Mother's primary nurse. Haiyoung was extremely patient, professional and compassionate with my Mom. I realize the elderly (as well as most people) can be a challenge when they are ill.
Haiyoung always knew the right thing to say to my Mother. She always came in the room with a smile on her face and an encouraging word for my Mother and our family. My family was very worried about our aging Mother, and Haiyoung kept us updated. Her pleasant personality and calm presence kept us in good spirits. Other family members, at times, would be there instead of me, and they too noted the same level of care by Haiyoung. Even the days when Haiyoung was not Mother's nurse, she would quickly stop in to check on us.
For the 4th of July holiday many of our family from Florida, Alabama, Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina, had gotten together in the mountains an hour north of Mission Hospital. We were in an area and a hospital that we were not familiar with, so the positive experience was very reassuring. The extraordinary care shown to Mother was especially important to my family.
After Mother was released to go to Rehabilitation at her home in Alabama, my Mother and family continue to tell everyone, including her doctors at home, what a wonderful hospital Mission is (she has been in several hospitals for several illness/surgery). This is due to people like Haiyoung whose true professionalism; compassion and dedication come shining through every day. There were several other nurses and employees who were also very good but Haiyoung was a true example of what makes Mission such a great hospital.
