Hajra defines what a Nurse should be and sets the example for her peers.
I am pleased to write this nomination for Hajra Bajwa, practice RN at NHPP. Hajra is a wonderful patient advocate. She has always gone beyond for patient care and put the extra time and effort into taking care of her patients.
However, one event stands out. A patient had seen a physician as a new patient appointment with no history in the practice. He had various complaints of just not feeling well. He was fixated on his glucose and how it is affecting his mood. The physician examined the patient and his recommendations included labs, a follow-up appointment, and anti-anxiety medication to stabilize his mood.
After exiting, the patient remained in the waiting area seeming nervous and stating he was not ready to leave. The RN team was notified and Hajra was stepped out to speak with the patient.
She remained with the patient for some time and used her compassionate skills to extract any information possible that could be the source of his behavior. With that, she believed the patient was suicidal, asked the patient with his agreement if he wanted help. He agreed and because of the proximity to the hospital, Hajra and the Manager walked the patient over to the ER where he was admitted for suicidal tendencies (he mentioned he had a plan to harm himself).
The patient remained hospitalized for approximately one month and received much-needed care and treatment. Had it not been for the Hajra taking the time out to connect with the patient and fully assess his emotional needs as well, I am not sure this patient would be here today.
I believe Hajra defines what a Nurse should be and sets the example for her peers. She exemplifies what the DAISY Award is all about.
