Hakeem saw beyond my father's age and treated him with dignity, compassion, and respect.
My father is a sharp 98-year-old man who has been a patient in many hospitals in his lifetime. He was so impressed with the care he received from Hakeem and requested that Hakeem be acknowledged. This nurse saw beyond my father's age and treated him with dignity, compassion, and respect. The elderly tend to be treated as if they are invisible, spoken to as if they are children, and therefore not smart enough to understand what is happening to them. Hakeem did not rush my dad, he answered his question and made sure he was clear, and my dad understood. He saw who my father is, a vital, intelligent man a little apprehensive of being in the hospital but important. Every question was answered, and he would go to get the answer if he didn't have it and return to tell my father. My dad said to me, "This is a dedicated Nurse, someone who cares for his patients." As a retired RN, I know the job; I know the kind of nurses in the workplace. This is a nurse whom others should emulate. A true nurse who shows compassion and commitment, who made my father's hospital experience a reassuring experience.
