I have only been working with Hala the past few months, but in that short amount of time, I have witnessed her make a HUGE impact on our patients, families, and staff. When you meet Hala you can tell she is excited and passionate about this place. You would agree when you experience being greeted by her with her gigantic smile on her face along with the fun hop to her step! Though there are many reasons why I think Hala is a DAISY Nurse, there is one specific example that I think speaks truth to the type of person she is. Recently, as she is fulfilling the role of the interim nurse educator, Hala advocated for a representative to come to Acute Care Peds (ACP) to give a demo on J-Tip. If you are not familiar with J-Tip, it is a small device used prior to pokes (IV placement, LP, sutures, etc.) that numbs the area where a needle will be used and ultimately helps children experience these procedures in a whole new light. Like I said before, Hala has only been here a short while but is taking immediate action to implement methods to enhance ACP. The demo was fantastic, and she not only included nurses and managers, but she thought to include Child Life, which really made me feel like a valued member of our multidisciplinary team. I most certainly hope that J-Tip will soon be utilized and that our hospital is able to see the amazing benefits of the device and recognize that we are improving as an institution and in this particular instance, it is due to our outstanding employee, Hala Vos.
