I am a registered nurse and one day I fell and fractured my tibia and fibula also crushing my ankle. After surgery, the first nurse I remember was Haley. She walked into my room and started to joke with me. What a pleasure she was. I was so sad and felt helpless and she soon made me forget myself and laugh with her. I have never been on this side of the bed and she brought laughter, extraordinary nursing care, and kindness with her every time she entered my room. She made the rest of my visit enjoyable.
However, the one thing that Haley did for me was beyond typical nursing care. She left on a Friday night and said she would see me Monday. To my surprise, Haley showed up the next evening, which was a Saturday night. She was dressed in her regular 20 something clothes, carrying a gift and a get-well card. What nurse does this on their well-deserved day off? Haley got herself a pillow, laid on my couch, and talked with me about my concerns. What a wonderful person and nurse to be this dedicated to their patients.
