Recently, Rapid Response Nurse Haley Davis implemented the values of Purpose, Compassion, Excellence, and Teamwork to make a patient's day so much better. The patient has been at Ball for 14 days but was previously at another facility for 2 months. The patient had been COVID positive but had swabbed negative twice the week prior.
Haley took it upon herself to organize a team so that this patient that had been behind closed doors for greater than 45 days, could go outside in the sunlight. Haley spoke with the Intensivist about this and received an order affirming the adventure, stating, "there was probably nothing better that could be accomplished for the patient today!" There was a slight language barrier, so Haley sought out a CIC nurse who assisted with communication.
Haley helped the patient bathe and shave, as these were requests from the patient prior to going outside. Haley coordinated the following team: Pulmonologist, 2 critical care nurses, RT, Clinical Advisory, and an IPAD so the patient could communicate with family while in the sunshine! Careful attention was taken to stay within the mobility bundle and safety measures - oxygen, monitors, etc.
