Haley went above and beyond and made my experience the best it could have been.
I went into labor and was lucky enough to have Haley as my labor and delivery nurse for the birth of my second daughter. Haley was kind and welcoming when she introduced herself and really listened to me when we discussed my goals for my birth. I wanted as little intervention as possible and hoped to avoid an epidural. I knew from my last delivery that I wouldn't want to move when contractions ramped up, so I asked her to keep encouraging me to try different positions even if I seemed resistant. Haley went above and beyond and made my experience the best it could have been. She made sure I got some food in the earlier stages while I still had an appetite. When things started getting more intense, she helped in many ways. She brought me juice to sip even though I kept saying no (she was right, that little bit of sugar kept my energy up!). She helped me change positions so often- I don't think I labored on my back at all, which was exactly what I wanted! She helped by applying counterpressure which gave me so much relief. When I told her I was feeling discouraged because I was in so much pain but was only 7cm and had only progressed 1cm in 2 hours she was so encouraging. She explained all the reasons why I was making good progress and helped me understand that things were going well, and the end was near. When my midwife offered to break my waters, I initially declined, but both Hayley and my midwife explained the pros and cons without me feeling persuaded either way. I elected to have my water broken and delivered very quickly after that! When it was time to move to postpartum, Haley was so gentle and reassuring helping me go to the bathroom and get dressed. Aside from our daughter, Hayley was hands down the highlight of our birth story. Everyone who asks about my delivery gets to hear a little about the angel of a nurse we had! Hayley made me feel like I had the support of a doula. Lakeland is lucky to have her. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Haley!
