Haley was eager to interact with us and explain what was going to be happening throughout the night. She was so personable, wise, and calming.
I had to have emergency gall bladder surgery while 2.5 hours from home on a family vacation. Naturally, since I was away from home, I was nervous about what Red Wing's hospital might be like. To have care from nurses like Haley took all the concern away. Let me tell you why.
Haley was one of my overnight RNs. Haley is a remarkable person and RN. As my wife and I observed and got to know her, we were amazed and blessed by the person she is. Haley was eager to interact with us and explain what was going to be happening throughout the night. She was so personable, wise, and calming.
She came in to work each day eager to engage in the care plan and not just wait for things to happen and respond. She would get answers to my questions and not leave me with the answer, "I don't know." Instead, she would find out and report back.
We were able to learn of other things she has going on in life, such as teaching some nursing students locally, and I thought, "That is SO good because she is the type of leader and teacher that I want RNs to be and become."
At one point, she made an extra phone call to the pharmacy as she wanted to make sure one of my medications wasn't in conflict with another one I was on. She saw something and did something.
When I shared that I could use some extra sleep during the night, she appropriately managed my care to provide a larger gap between her visits. By the end of our stay, my wife and I felt sincerely like we had made a friend who cared about us both medically and as humans.
If I could clone Haley, I would make many of her to help with the national RN shortage! If she is the future of nurses, I'll sleep well and breathe easy. Please keep her, give her every opportunity you can, and as I told her, the future for her is very, very high.
