Haley was charged with the care of a special needs adult who previously had been a very difficult patient, requiring constant attention because of agitation and attempts to get out of bed. On rounds today we arrived to find Haley on the floor with the patient singing songs and reading her a book. Haley thought outside the box using egg crate pads and pillows to make the patient a safe, clean, and comfortable space on the floor. The patient was extremely comfortable and happy whereas before our arrival in the room would cause significant stress which the patient would express by grinding her teeth and crying. Today our arrival was greeted with a smiling, interactive patient who sang the ABCs with us. It was obvious how much Haley's care had improved the patient's mental and mood condition. Haley thinking outside the box significantly helped the recovery of our admittedly difficult patient. Memorial and the rest of the healthcare world needs more nurses like Haley.
