Haley connects with patients and families through trust and emotional support. Recently, in Radiation Photon and Proton there were two patients that were siblings. This nurse went the extra mile every day to check in with the mother and father to see how they were coping. This family had both children receiving radiation and one of the children was Inpatient to prepare for BMT. This nurse is the best example of a patient and family advocate. She tells all the nurses and staff that “this is the worst time in a patient’s life”. We, as nurses, are responsible for showing compassion during these stressful situations.

This nurse genuinely fosters hope in the families and patients. For this particular family, the mother would talk with this nurse about her concerns for her children as they were receiving treatment and this nurse would take the time to stop and listen even if she was in the recovery room with a patient and family, passing by in the hallways, or in the cafeteria. She sincerely cared for this family and the situation they were going through at this time.

This nurse exemplifies excellent nursing care with every patient. This nurse is very passionate about being an example to all the nurses to foster hope for each and every patient and family. She celebrates the life of every patient and family that she cares for on a daily basis. I have had the pleasure of working with Haley for the past 18 years on the Sedation Team.
