My first ECT treatment- and I was petrified. I had undergone shock treatment in 1974 as a teenager and was extremely skeptical and very, very nervous before the treatment began. To the point of considering climbing out of the bed I was in. Before I could throw myself on the floor, in came this very pretty, young lady who introduced herself and asked me how I was feeling. She must have sensed how I felt. She sat on the edge of my bed, held my hand, and talked to me about the procedure. Her gentle demeanor and words had an almost instant, overwhelming calming effect on me. She gently held my hand until they put me "under." That was on a Friday. On the following Monday, much to my surprise, she stopped by just to say "Hello' and see how I was doing. She is a real gem, a walking testament to the word "Caregiver." Her comfort & caring will never be forgotten.

Just in case you happen to overlook my first nominations, here is a second. I was down in the ECT unit awaiting my first treatment, and I was sitting on the edge of my bed, nervous as hell. This lovely young lady sat down beside me and said, 'Hi, I'm Halley, are you ok?" After I explained how I was feeling, she held my hand right up until they put the mask on my face. Her comfort and caring helped me through one of the most difficult moments of my life. She is priceless. Reminds me of an old Irish folk song: "I'll give you a daisy a day, dear; I'll give you a daisy a day -I love you until the rivers run still and the four winds, we now blow away." She is the embodiment of the word "Caregiver" and an absolute Gem.
