Recently we spent 4 nights on pediatrics with our 15-month-old. While on pediatrics we were consistently blown away by the caliber of both the nursing and ancillary staff. While everyone who cared for us was wonderful, the nurse we had each afternoon/evening really stands out. Halley Smith was our assigned nurse for a portion of each day we were in the hospital. Halley went above and beyond consistently every day. Her assessment skills were thorough, her communication was clear and her compassion radiated. I can imagine that taking care of a nurse's child is no easy task. One of my favorite attributes Halley demonstrated was her communication with me. She explained everything in great detail and her pediatric expertise was unmatched. She never assumed I knew something and explained everything so clearly. She bonded with S at every interaction and it was obvious she deeply cared for her patient. Halley exemplifies all of the qualities of a DAISY Nurse. Not only did Halley take excellent care of S but she also took excellent care of his family. Halley's small acts of kindness made a big difference in the hardest 4 days we have faced as parents so far. Halley made a significant impact on our family and we will be forever grateful for her service and commitment to nursing practice.
