Hallie Metcalf was our nurse all day while my 2-year-old son was having surgery. Not only did she exemplify competence and knowledge throughout the entire process, but what stood out to us is that she kept my son entertained all day long. Although he was having a minor elective surgery, as parents we were so scared and nervous. She checked on my family all day and made sure we were comfortable and informed. I was worried about my son being hungry or cranky while waiting several hours for surgery, but he did not even notice any discomfort because of Hallie. She brought him a car to ride in and even entertained him at the nurse’s station! She took her time with everything she did to make sure he was comfortable and that we understood everything that was going on. Her constant communication and updates on procedure time was very much appreciated. We never felt forgotten about. When my son woke up from anesthesia, he was very upset. As soon as Hallie walked in, he was instantly calm and had a smile on his face. When he finished his popsicle and asked for another one, she came right away. She read over our care instructions from the doctor and explained everything in a way we could understand. Before leaving her shift, she made a point to stop by and tell us goodbye. I will never forget how she made what could have been a stressful and scary day a fun and memorable one in many ways.
