Hallie reminded me about why I chose nursing in the first place. She is the epitome of compassion and the desire to help people.
For several nights in a row, Hallie and I had an awake, trached, and ventilated patient who was also a quadriplegic. I will refer to the patient as "Sally" for HIPAA. Sally always had an itchy head because her scalp was so dry, and her neck was always so stiff because she couldn't move it. Hallie went out of her way and spent several hours scratching her head and massaging her neck each night. She went to great lengths to make sure Sally was always comfortable. It didn't take long at all for Hallie to catch on, and eventually, she was able to take care of Sally almost all on her own.

Aside from patient care, Hallie is a genuine, kind person. Nursing in the ICU during the last year has made most of us cold, and we find it difficult to keep going in this career, but Hallie reminded me about why I chose nursing in the first place. She is the epitome of compassion and the desire to help people. I truly believe she will go above and beyond with whatever she chooses to do with her nursing career. There is so much more I want to say about Hallie, but unfortunately, I struggle to get my words onto paper. Basically, she is a gem, and the nursing world is lucky to have her. She has quickly become a friend to me.
