Hanna Hoeltzer, RN, MN, BSN

My special needs adult daughter was admitted to the hospital for treatment for a small bowel obstruction, PE, DVT, and pneumonia. As a nurse myself, I felt compelled to nominate Hanna for this award after witnessing first-hand the outstanding, compassionate care given by her. My daughter is total cares and does not communicate; I would imagine it could be overwhelming for some nurses to have her as a patient assignment due to all her needs but Hanna remained kind and caring through all interactions and cares, always smiled and was friendly with my daughter and all the family that visited. She was calm and efficient, did not rush, kept the room tidy, performed skills at the bedside cleanly, and washed her hands often before doing anything. She took time to explain what we could expect next. Diligent with all care right down to timely repositioning. She was empathetic and consoling when I was struggling with my emotions and the stress of all that my daughter had been going through early on during the stay. On the day of discharge, she made sure we had everything we needed to continue care at home, as my daughter would be having another procedure the following week. While we received great care from all, it was Hanna that we all connected with. She personifies what it takes to be a great nurse. Thank you, Hanna!
