Hannah was 100% my advocate during my entire visit. The steps she took in my care were beyond my expectations.
Hannah was the first nurse I met in L&D. From the moment she escorted me to my room, I knew she was special. The immediate comfort level I was given was so calming for me given my history of extreme anxiety. I probably will not do her care justice in the description but I will try my best. Hannah was 100% my advocate during my entire visit. The steps she took in my care were beyond my expectations. When I arrived, I was laboring, and she walked slowly with me to my room. She checked in on my mental health from the start. “You tell me if something is triggering you”. I entered at 8cm dilated and she immediately took all the necessary steps quickly to get my epidural on order. When they came in to give me the epidural she held me. Held my head, and my shoulders, and coached me through the pain. “Remember to keep your chin down” ever so gently.

Once I was finished with the epidural, she got me settled in the bed to make sure I was positioned properly for it to take effect. Then we started to “labor down” to get my baby girl ready. I was unsure what that meant so she walked me through the steps. Hannah was in and out of my room frequently checking on me during this 35 minute process. When she decided I was ready, she sat at the end of my bed and prepped me for pushing. Counting with me. “Deep breath and push, ok breathe”. Before I knew it, she was telling me I could touch my baby's head if I wanted to. “P (husband) push the call button, the doctor is at the door” (he felt important, even though he’s birthed multiple babies in his career). Once the doctor was in and ready, one final push and my girl was here! Hannah talked me through the next steps of what was going on with suction, cleaning, and measuring. All of my nurses were awing over our quick birthing journey, complimenting me like I was something special. I told Hannah I try to be the easiest patient “that they’ll forget me”. She assured me that I am one of the memorable birthing stories.

After all was said and done, Hannah came back in to talk to me about how I had to stay put because of elevated BP. She explained our next steps and held me while I cried because I was being put on medicine and had to stay put. She came in frequently checking on my mental health and giving my baby lovins. I never felt abandoned. She checked my stomach, my bleeding, and my pressure, very often. The next day when Hannah came back on shift, she walked in and I almost cried. I yelled “Hannah!!!! I’m so glad you’re here.” She talked to the doctor about pulling me early from the magnesium because I had only one spike in BP and had a migraine from no food. No luck. Eventually, MY OB came in and allowed me to snack. Once I was taken off the magnesium, Hannah cleaned me up, walked me to the bathroom, set my underwear up, and helped me get dressed in comfy clothes. She took me upstairs and told my nurse that I was to be made to sleep because she was concerned with my lack of rest.

I feel like I made a lifelong friend in Hannah. She loved on my daughter and me like we were family. Hannah is a DAISY Nurse because of her heart and passion for this job. If she treats her patients half as well as she treated me, she has definitely left her mark on this world. Feeling the passion she has for this job, makes her shine brighter than all the others. Thank you Hannah for your heart. Thank you for your passion. Thank you, Methodist for hiring such a gem!
