Hannah was not only caring and knowledgeable about everything that was going on, but she showed such compassion for a whole room full of people she had only just met.
I am writing this experience through heavy tears. My grandparents were in a devastating motorcycle accident. For a full week, the whole family was in and out of their rooms and the waiting area. By the time we got Hannah as a nurse was the same time, the difficult decision was made to extubate my grandparents and let them pass in peace. As a nurse I’m sure this is one of those scenarios you get that can go very bad or go very well; one of those scary times you walk into not knowing if the family and friends accept the inevitable which can put the nurse in an uncomfortable position. I commend Hannah on how she handled the whole situation. She was not only caring and knowledgeable about everything that was going on, but she showed such compassion for a whole room full of people she had only just met. As a PCA I have worked with nurses in the hospital ICU and Stepdown and some are jaded because of all the things they’ve seen. I’m sure you have to have a thick skin to continue in a line of work where it is more often than not the patient is going to die. Hannah is an experienced and well-trained nurse, but even having those skills she still asked us (as the people who knew my grandparents the best) if they looked comfortable and peaceful in the dying process. She was incredible and it was an honor to have her as our nurse as we lost two members of our very large family. The entire unit was very nice and accommodating in such a devastating time for our family. Thank you all for making such a terrible and sad experience, not so difficult. You all accommodated my whole family even with the Covid restrictions and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that.
