My wife and I were in the labor and delivery room for the birth of our first child, our daughter. My wife and I are both experienced nurses—and now nurse practitioners—so to say we have high expectations for nursing care would be an understatement. By the time Hannah came onto her night shift, my wife had been enduring painful back labor for more than 60 hours, and we had all been awake for nearly two full days.

We were exhausted beyond words. From the moment Hannah introduced herself, we knew we were in the best hands. She immediately instilled confidence by explaining what she anticipated in the hours ahead, thoroughly preparing the room, and ensuring every necessary supply was ready for the imminent delivery. She walked us through her actions step by step, which brought us comfort and calm during a very intense time. When our daughter experienced a frightening, prolonged deceleration, Hannah acted instantly and decisively—calling for help and mobilizing the medical team with calm precision.

Throughout it all, she never lost focus on her patient in the bed or the anxious family at her side. Beyond her clear clinical expertise, Hannah showed remarkable compassion. She encouraged my wife with kind, steady, and reassuring words before, during, and after delivery—all the way until she transferred us to the Mother/Baby unit. Those words of support and care are ones we will never forget. Having been a nurse for over 10 years, I know how thankless the work can sometimes feel.
