Hannah is constantly living our values in everything she does for our patients. She provides compassion and respect to anyone she comes into contact with by listening to their needs, and taking the time to get to know them even when our unit may be full. Hannah has demonstrated our value of justice by not judging any patient by their past, but instead reaches out to them and offers them a prayer for healing.
Most recently, Hannah was in charge and she received a call from a nurse in the medical access center stating they had a family in crisis and did not know where to send the call for help. Hannah told the nurse she would take the call and see what should could do to help. On the phone was the family member of a 94 year old patient who had an ostomy placed at some time here at SARMC. He was out of ostomy supplies, and his stoma was open to a washcloth with a high amount of stool coming out. The patient would not have any supplies until the following day to care for his ostomy. Hannah told the family member to come to the floor and she would provide them a few items to get them through until the next day along with some directions on how to make everything work. A short time later, another family member called back to thank Hannah for helping them in their time of need.
Hannah then sent me an email because she was worried about the impact of giving out supplies would have on our budget. She stated if we needed she was willing to pay for these out of her paycheck to ensure the family had what the needed. This is another way Hannah lives our Core Value of Stewardship. I ensured Hannah she did a great job by putting our patient first.
