Hannah was more than just my nurse. She became my guardian angel during one of the scariest times of my life.
I was admitted into RMC’s ICU due to a severe case of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). From the moment I arrived, I was overwhelmed with anxiety and uncertainty. I didn’t know what the treatment process would entail or what to expect during my stay.

Hannah Byrd, my assigned ICU nurse, immediately introduced herself with a calm and reassuring demeanor. She took the time to thoroughly explain every aspect of my care, from what DKA meant and how it would be managed, to the medications and procedures I’d be receiving. Hannah patiently addressed each of my questions, no matter how small, making sure I understood what was happening at every step.

Her compassion and professionalism were evident in everything she did. She monitored my blood sugar and vital signs closely, adjusted my IV fluids and insulin as needed, and was always quick to respond to alarms and changes in my condition. Hannah advocated for my needs with the doctors, ensuring I received prompt attention and the best possible care. Even when things got hectic in the ICU, she never made me feel like a burden. Her presence was a constant source of comfort.

What truly set Hannah apart was the extra efforts she made to support me emotionally and physically. She remembered the small details, like my request for sugar-free orange-flavored popsicles, and made sure I had one with every meal. Even though the kitchen didn’t have any on hand, she went out of her way to find them for me. Whether it was adjusting my pillows, offering words of encouragement, or just taking a few moments to chat when I was feeling scared, Hannah made me feel seen and cared for as a person, not just a patient.

Hannah was more than just my nurse. She became my guardian angel during one of the scariest times of my life. Her skill, knowledge, and genuine kindness truly saved my life and gave me hope when I needed it most.

Thank you, Hannah, for everything you did for me. I will never forget your care and the difference you made in my recovery.
