We work on what is now the COVID unit. We had a patient airlifted to LeBonheur from out of state to be tested/admitted for possible COVID infection. The family was driving and hours behind the helicopter. From the moment our patient arrived, he was very upset and screaming non-stop. Hannah dressed out in her N95 mask, surgical mask, face shield, gown, and gloves and rocked that baby in her lap for hours until the family could arrive. As nurses, we don’t always have the time to console and put our patients at ease like that. But as a mother myself, my soul would rest easy knowing someone like Hannah was there with my baby until my arrival. Those COVID rooms are loud, hot, and uncomfortable but Hannah sat there rocking that baby until he finally was able to rest. We are beyond lucky to have her.
