Hannah took charge of the situation, and everyone in the room was relieved that she was there to help.
On this very busy day, Hannah was charging and also pumping. The emergency department called asking for assistance with a 4-day-old baby who was lethargic, not peeing, and non-responsive to stimuli. Hannah had just returned from seeing a different baby in the emergency department and was late pumping. She cut her pumping session short and went to the ED to assist. The baby needed blood work, urine, and access. The Vascular Access Team did not have anyone qualified to stick a baby, so it was up to the NICU to get it. Hannah is very skilled in this area and was quickly able to get a peripheral IV and blood work. She assisted the ED physician with determining fluids and labs. She also got a warmer down to the ED, so the baby could be warmed properly.

Hannah took charge of the situation, and everyone in the room was relieved that she was there to help. The parents hugged and thanked her when she left. The hospital is lucky to have Hannah. Not only is her critical thinking and skill top-notch, but Hannah also cares a great deal about her patients. She wants them to get the best care possible. This includes minimizing unnecessary invasive testing/sticks, etc., as well as escalating care/interventions when needed. Hannah always advocates for her patients and is an excellent communicator. Hannah has rescued the ED many times and is an asset to the NICU.
