She made K feel seen, heard, and cared for, which is at the heart of great nursing and the heart of a positive patient and family experience.
Hannah made an incredible difference in the care of my wife, K, during her stay at Shock Trauma, and she fully represents what this award is all about. During those long hours in the ICU, I had a lot of time to reflect, pray, and read billboards in the hallways late at night while my wife was receiving lifesaving care. That is when I saw the billboard notice for the DAISY Award nomination. That’s what made me think of Nurse Hannah Ravenscroft.
Hannah is one of those rare people who combine deep compassion with clear skill and confidence. From the very start, she brought a calm and steady presence to K's care, which helped our entire family feel at ease. Beyond her nursing expertise, Hannah showed an extraordinary level of empathy – not just focused on K’s recovery but also on how I was feeling and coping. She saw that I was exhausted, and even though she knew I wanted to stay by my wife’s side, she encouraged me to get some rest. Her words, “I got her, go get some sleep,” still make me emotional. She knew I also had a long road ahead and needed to heal, just like I did. She made K feel seen, heard, and cared for, which is at the heart of great nursing and the heart of a positive patient and family experience.
What also stood out was Hannah’s leadership and how she fostered a teamwork environment. Her calm strength and the way she carried herself seemed to elevate the whole team. She’s the kind of nurse who leads by example – always positive, focused on what’s right, and fully aligned with compassionate care. I have no doubt that techs and students working beside her remind them of why they started this journey in the first place.
Hannah is clearly engaged in her work, and it shows. She’s proactive, thoughtful, and supportive, and her engagement no doubt contributes to the strength and growth of the nursing team. She’s a role model for compassionate care and deserves recognition not just for the incredible difference she made to my family, but for the example she sets. We are incredibly grateful for the care she provided to K. She added hope to a very difficult situation with her kindness, expertise, and compassion – and we will never forget it.
