Hannah and J would have singing competitions, and play games like "toss the tape" (he was obsessed with tape), and he especially loved it when she rubbed his feet.
My son J was a chronic patient in and out of the pediatric cardiac ICU for several years. Hannah would go above and beyond to make sure he had everything he needed and wanted. He was intubated several times but was very awake and alert, he did PT, and OT and carried on some pretty intense conversations. Hannah would work so hard to read J's lips around the ET tube, sometimes he would get very upset and discouraged because so many of the hospital staff couldn’t understand what he was trying to say but Hannah would work and work try every possible solution (without mom's help) to fully understand what he was saying. Hannah and J would have singing competitions, and play games like "toss the tape" (he was obsessed with tape), and he especially loved it when she rubbed his feet. When J would see Hannah walk by his room he would set off alarms on purpose for her to come back and then put his feet on his bed motioning her to come in because it was foot rub time! Hannah always checked in on me and made sure I was okay. She treated me like a friend and not just a patient's parent. She always made sure to write us little notes to wake up to in the mornings (she works night shift). Night shift is always when J likes to cause trouble and so many times made the nurses and doctors stay bed side and figure out what the problem was. When we had Hannah as our nurse she wouldn’t leave J's side so she didn’t miss a single thing, she thought about so many different ways to handle the issue at hand. She would do research and look things up and bring it to the physician's attention. She would stay on high alert and always keep the physician notified. Hannah is a one-of-a-kind blessing we needed during the toughest time for our family!!!
