During my once daily consult with the hospitalist, I asked if he would assist me in getting a biopsy of a mole on my shoulder that hadn't healed in about 6 months. I had previously mentioned that I had to cancel my biopsy appointment because of being in the hospital at Cox. He told me that there was no way to get one as I had to be an outpatient and be referred by a dermatologist. Hannah Seckman, my nurse, went to work for me. She called in the patient advocate for me. The best she could do was a phone number for the Cox physician line. Hannah then called in the nurse manager for me. The nurse manager consulted with the hospitalist; the skin team was then called in. A member of the skin team met with me, changed my dressings and gave me advice on a course of treatment. Hannah worked with me to achieve what I felt needed to be done. She helped me through layers of bureaucracy. She provided all that was needed to address my concerns. This all happened because Hannah Seckman would not give up on her patient.
