Harold P Melendez, RN, BSN

Although all the nurses at GCMC were wonderful, I am nominating Harold because he is so compassionate. Our son, C was admitted to the ICU and passed away almost 3 weeks after admission. Harold was his nurse the night he was admitted. That first night, Harold arranged for C to call me. It was late and I had just sat down to relax and watch TV (my phone was on silent from being at the hospital all day). I had my phone near me and just happened to notice that a call was coming in from a 239 number. Normally I do not answer calls if I don't recognize the number but, I am so glad I took the chance because Harold allowed C to use the phone and we talked for about 41 minutes. I don't remember what we talked about, but I do know that C asked Harold to use his phone to call his mom. That was the last time I was able to speak to my son and I will always be grateful to Harold for giving me that gift.

P.S.He probably even had to hold the phone for C because of all of the IV tubes.
