His empathy and quick thinking not only supported the emotional well-being of the patient but also inspired everyone who witnessed it.
I would like to nominate Harry Nacionales for the DAISY Award in recognition of an act of quiet compassion that truly embodies what it means to care holistically for our patients.

During a recent day shift, a patient was preparing for discharge but didn’t have a clean shirt to wear home. He was visibly embarrassed and hesitant to leave in soiled clothing. Without hesitation, Harry, who commutes a long distance to work and keeps extra clothes in his car, offered a personal solution. He stepped away, retrieved a clean shirt from his car, and gave it to the patient.

This small act had a powerful impact. It restored the patient’s dignity, reinforced trust in our care, and turned what could have been a distressing moment into one of comfort and respect. Harry’s actions went beyond clinical duties — they demonstrated the kind of compassion and patient-centered care that the DAISY Award was created to celebrate.

His empathy and quick thinking not only supported the emotional well-being of the patient but also inspired everyone who witnessed it.

This is what extraordinary nursing leadership looks like.
