Hawa exemplifies what it means to deliver care with compassion and dignity. Patient D.R.C. was admitted to Grady and later transferred to 5A ACE. During her care, Hawa noticed that the patient’s hair was severely matted after a fall that caused bleeding at the back of her head. Instead of treating this as a routine detail, Hawa went above and beyond. She gently shampooed and braided the patient’s hair, then added beautiful hair accessories she brought in herself. This thoughtful gesture restored the patient’s sense of self-worth and created a moment of joy during a challenging time. During Nurse Leader rounding, the patient expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Hawa makes me feel special.” She also shared how happy and beautiful Hawa made her feel. Hawa’s actions reflect Grady’s mission to provide not only exceptional clinical care but also respect, empathy, and human connection. She truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award and the values that define our organization.
