She sat on the bed right next to us and gave my daughter so many words of encouragement and explained that none of this was her fault. She even hugged her while she cried.
My father had a recent visit to the LRMC emergency room, and from the minute we entered the room until the minute we were admitted, Haylee was the most respectful, caring, and humble individual that we could have asked for to care for my dad. She physically sat down and listened to our concerns, and talked us like we were her family instead of just another number. My dad is a very grumpy old man, especially when he is sick. He hates everything that has to do with doctors and hospitals and becomes a big grouch to anything and anyone around him. Haylee took the challenge and had him smiling and laughing the minute she walked into the door. I’ve never seen him smile this much while lying in a hospital bed. She checked in very often and answered every single one of my dad’s questions with a smile on her face, even if they were silly. She explained every procedure, medication, or action that she did with great detail in terms that we could understand and explained exactly why she was doing them. She is a very intelligent and knowledgeable young lady. Most importantly, she offered to pray with my father. This was the icing on the cake for us. After several hours, I ended up having to run home to check on my kids, and she took the time to call me personally to tell me that my dad was getting admitted and where he would be going. Everyone deserves to have a Haylee, and I hope if we land back in the ER, we will cross paths again. My dad has said all week to call that little blonde girl and tell her thank you. We appreciate Haylee and the entire staff at LRMC for being so good to my father at one of his darkest times. She deserves every award on the market.

My daughter discovered she was pregnant and was over the moon. Five days later, she realized she was bleeding. We went to the ER, and deep in my gut, I knew she was having a miscarriage, but I tried to keep hope. We all prayed so hard for this baby so it was just so devastating. When Haylee came into the room, she could feel the sadness but immediately greeted us with love and kindness until the moment she left. My daughter began to break down when trying to explain the situation. Haylee told her to stop talking and that we were going to take this one step at a time. One test at a time. One particular moment that has really stuck with me is when my daughter gave a urine sample, and it was bright red, and there were obvious clots in it. She began to cry, and Haylee stood at the door and immediately took the sample away from her and covered it up and kept repeating “one test at a time”. She sat on the bed right next to us and gave my daughter so many words of encouragement and explained that none of this was her fault. She even hugged her while she cried. That was something that many would not do. She was worried that she was bleeding out, especially after her urine sample. Haylee was kind enough to write her labs down on a piece of paper along with the normal ranges and explained in detail what each one meant and eventually showed her that she was okay. This was a very very busy day in the ER, we could all tell. But Haylee always stopped on a dime to answer any questions we had our entire visit. She was one of the most caring and compassionate people I have ever met. We still talk about her often. My cousin is a nurse and mentioned the DAISY Award and I knew it fit Haylee down to a T. I could never sing her praises enough for the kindness that she brought us in such a dark time. I thank her from the bottom of my heart.
