She lovingly and gently completed the whole process, restoring some of the patient's dignity.
I was able to witness Hayley performing some extraordinary caregiving to two of her patients on two different occasions. In both instances, she administered truly compassionate care by attending to the needs of her patients. The first time she admitted a gentleman who had weeping wounds on both of his legs. Besides the drainage, both legs had crusts and different kinds of debris in the wounds. Hayley gently but thoroughly cleansed the wounds, removing all the debris and crusts, and wrapped the wounds carefully. Many of us would have done a cursory wrapping after photographing the wounds, which she also did. The second instance was during her care of a lady who had come in intubated. After completing the vent bath that we do routinely, she noticed that her hair didn’t cleanse well with the shampoo cap. The RT noted that the patient had vomited and the vomit had gotten into her hair. Hayley thoroughly cleansed her hair numerous times until the water she used was completely clear. She combed all the snarls clear and put her hair up to prevent any further knots in it. She lovingly and gently completed the whole process, restoring some of the patient's dignity. Hayley was so compassionate and caring with both of her patients. She gave them both incredible respect and dignity.
