I was a patient on Hayley’s ward for a total of three weeks. A few days after being moved there from SECU, a medical crisis arose, and I had to undergo further emergency life-saving surgery. When I was very ill, Hayley made special efforts to sit holding my hand and gave priceless words of comfort and encouragement prior to my operation. When I eventually returned to Ward 31, each on-duty day, Hayley found the time for a reassuring chat despite her demanding routine duties. As I recovered, but on a Level Four diet, Hayley was always there with the best food suggestions and to thoroughly explain any changes in medication. As happily the time to return home approached, Hayley gathered my family together and explained in detail about each dose of medication, how to take it, and any precautions. She answered our questions patiently and clearly. Hayley is not only a skilled and caring nurse but a compassionate person who seems to sense each patient’s needs and respond appropriately with understanding and warmth. I also noticed that she always immediately acted to support her team when called upon by them. In summary, Hayley is a wonderful nurse and a major contributor to the excellent care offered by the Ward 31 team.
