Hazel is a DAISY Nurse because we have seen her take good care of our patients and go above and beyond many times. We had a patient who lost all her belongings due to a fire and she went and bought her clothes and shoes because the patient was going home and had nothing to wear. The patient was beyond thankful. We also had a patient who wanted to go AMA but instead of placing him in restraints, she decided to spend time with the patient and talked to the patient calmly. The patient trusted her and agreed to wait for the doctor, and she got a wheelchair and brought him to the cafeteria to buy him ice cream. This kept the patient calm until he was transferred to another unit and never needed to be restrained. And today, she contacted a physician directly to arrange for a family meeting so the worried and confused family could ask questions and they are very grateful.

Hazel always sets a good example for all of us on how to be compassionate to our patients. She does not only care for our patients but also shows compassion to everyone and she always talks about giving grace and being kind. She deserves an award for all the things that she does for our unit.
