My husband was at Kaiser SSF for all of last week. Hazel Herrera was an awesome nurse and caregiver. Everytime he pressed the call button, she ran right into his room and immediately granted his numerous requests for pillows, blankets, pills, lights on or off. I'm surprised the Kaiser staff didn't disable his call button because he pressed it so many times!

Hazel treated my husband as if he was her only patient. She listened to his stories and laughed at his bad jokes. She kept him comfortable, pain free and calm during his first week as a new oncology patient. She seemed to be the only nurse able to get him to drink chalky medicine and would patiently wait until he drank the whole bottle.

Hazel should teach a class in bedside manner. There is something so calm and nurturing in her demeanor that the anxious swirl of hospital activity slows to allow healing to take place.

We are forever grateful for having Hazel in our midst.
