Heather Benedict, RN
Today, we are honored to present the DAISY Award to Heather Benedict for the exceptional compassion and care she provided to a patient and her family during an incredibly difficult time.
Heather was nominated by the daughter of a patient who was transferred to the ICU with sepsis. The nominator, herself a Med/Surg nurse, shared that she was overwhelmed and struggling to comfort her family. She wrote that Heather went above and beyond throughout the night, patiently answering her sister's calls and providing reassurance when it was needed most.
Because of Heather's kindness and attentiveness, the family was able to rest knowing their loved one was in good hands. The nomination also highlighted the compassion shown to the patient's husband, who stayed overnight to comfort his wife. After 50 years of marriage, they had never spent a night apart, and Heather helped make that difficult situation a little easier.
