Heather's straightforward and fun personality made her the perfect nurse for the delivery of my son, and I left Labor and Delivery knowing I was in the best care possible at St. Mary's.
Heather was an extraordinary nurse and support system. She clearly explained all my options and experiences, spent extensive time repositioning and stretching me to position the baby and to manage pain coverage from my epidural, and fully prepared me for pushing. She acted as a friend through the long hours talking with us and coached my husband to support me through the final pushing stage of labor - it felt as though we were catching up with a lifelong friend while we passed the hours by. Never would have been able to have such a positive and exciting labor process without Heather in the lead. It felt like she was in the trenches with us, but we were always in good hands. Heather's straightforward and fun personality made her the perfect nurse for the delivery of my son, and I left Labor and Delivery knowing I was in the best care possible at St. Mary's.

Heather, an exceptional OB nurse at St. Mary's Hospital, became a standout mentor known for her expertise in labor and delivery and her dedicated commitment to teaching. Whenever an eager OB nursing student was assigned to work with her, Heather immediately welcomed them with open arms, recognizing the significance of hands-on experience in obstetrics.

Heather actively involved the students in patient care, explaining procedures, answering questions, and encouraging their participation in tasks like monitoring contractions and assisting with epidurals. Heather's teaching extended beyond technical skills to emphasize the importance of empathy and compassion in OB care. By sharing personal stories, she connected theory to real-world practice, fostering a deep understanding of the emotional nuances of childbirth.

What sets Heather apart is her consistent willingness to accept students, even on the busiest days. She made time to individually guide and mentor each student, exposing them to a variety of scenarios, from routine deliveries to more complex cases. As a result of Heather's mentorship, the OB nursing students not only gained clinical skills but also developed a profound appreciation for the human side of obstetrics. Inspired by Heather's dedication to both patients and education, they left the rotation more confident, competent, and with lasting impressions of the challenging and rewarding world of obstetrics.
