Heather was caring for a patient who was of baby boomer age and having a difficult time with a new diagnosis of a chronic condition that may be changing his lifestyle. He and his wife needed a lot of reassurance and time to talk it out. Heather is perfect with this type of situation as she really listens to the patients and can focus on what the real concerns and needs are for them and their families. The patient and his wife were reminiscing about their life together and a favorite "soda shop" was mentioned. Heather drove to this shop on her next day off. It was an hour drive from her home. She brought the patient his favorite treat from the shop. This was the best medicine for this gentleman and his wife. Knowing that their life together could still be fun and full of little adventures as they journeyed through his new challenges together.
This is just one example of Heather's commitment to her patients and their families. She daily goes out of her way to make sure all of their concerns are addressed. Heather also never misses a beat while doing this for her patients. As a shift lead she supports the IMC team fully and makes sure the staff and their patients are very well attended to. Heather is outstanding and very aware of all of the clinical concerns of each and every patient on the unit. Heather knows every lab result, radiology report and physician note on all of the patients. There is never a stone unturned when she is working. The new hires find her a true inspiration of what a professional nurse should be.
