Heather helped my mother, who is 95.5 years old, on two separate hospital stays. All the nurses we saw on that floor provided great care for my mother, but Heather was exceptional for many reasons. She checked in on us early and often, making sure that we had everything we needed at all times. Sometimes this meant explaining new developments or helping us find a doctor and other times it meant bringing me a set of clean bedsheets so I could stay overnight on the couch and keep my mother company.
Heather also helped us with the referral process through Medicare when I requested a wheelchair for my mother, in case she felt too weak to use her walker. Heather ensured clear communication with the caseworker and ensured that our order went through without any problems.
Heather was very patient in the way she carefully explained each of my mother's symptoms, reactions, and conditions, including what they were monitoring and why. We always felt like we understood what was going on (even for conditions like my mother's UTI that persisted even after early treatment) and we never felt like we were left in the dark.
Heather's patience and thoroughness throughout the care process helped to put my mind at ease. I felt very lucky to have had her as a consistent part of my mother's treatment at Winchester Medical Center.
