Heather is an inspiration to everyone on the Peds Transport Team. Heather is an excellent nurse that is always advocating for the needs of the patient. Heather never gets frazzled and remains calm. Her positive attitude and infectious smile go a long way in promoting positivity for the team.
Recently she was on a call at an outside hospital. The patient's condition had deteriorated while she was at the bedside. Heather contacted medical control who did not seem to understand the severity of the patient's condition. Heather did not stop advocating for the appropriate treatment of the patient. Having a questioning attitude Heather asked clarifying questions to make sure she was clear on the information she was receiving.
Ultimately, she proceeded with the orders, and when the patient's condition did not improve. Heather again requested a different treatment. If Heather would not have stopped and made sure the patient improved before leaving the outside hospital, the patient may have deteriorated while in route to the hospital. This is just one example of how Heather is a patient advocate first and foremost in her day to day role. We would be lost without Heather who is a consistent influence and is always on her game. Heather is an example of what a DAISY Nurse should be.
