First, I must acknowledge all the staff members in the ICU that took such great care of our 89-year-old Father. The attentiveness is very much appreciated and will never be forgotten. However, when I spotted this purple pamphlet announcing The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, I immediately thought of one nurse, Heather Fallon. What a wonderful, caring person she is.
When Heather walked into the room, my dad, me, and my sister would all perk up and when she was off, we missed her dearly. Let me tell you why:
1. She genuinely loves what she does, and it shows.
2. Her interaction with the other staff members is very professional; the exchange with the RN coming on duty was so detailed.
3. We appreciated her communication skills. The way Heather updated us on my dad's condition, his treatment plan, his progress was just outstanding. Truly, she was so thorough and clear, we never had to ask her any questions. She talked in terms we could understand.
4. We noticed her interaction with our dad, she would always tell him what she was about to do, and why, then she'd look at him as if getting his ok, then she'd do it; she's just so compassionate.
5. Heather made us feel like she only had one patient, my dad, and we know she had many, but that's how we felt.
We feel she deserves the highest recognition as an exceptional nurse and an amazing person. I could go on and on about Heather, however, I'll conclude by saying thank you so much for hiring her at NLFH and thanks to Heather for our encounter. I will always remember her.
