Even though I was only at Nash for a short period due to the virus outbreak, Heather went above and beyond to help me pack in as many experiences as possible. I just want to describe how appreciative I am to have been able to precept with Heather.
After finding our precepting requirements had changed, I went in person, before the report, to explain the changes that had occurred. She understood the situation but suggested that I finish the shift to learn as much as possible while I could. While I was hesitant at first, I agreed. Over the course of this shift, she went above and beyond to give me as many learning opportunities as she could.
During the course of this shift, I for the first time, assumed care of 2 patients from start to finish. I started my own IV, took care of an alcohol withdrawal psych patient, and witnessed a code stroke. She also assisted as I worked with a patient on a Cardizem drip and gave me a template to better organize my report notes. I think my time spent at Nash ended on the highest note and I am very thankful for the experience.
***
My father was admitted with a severe UTI and during the hospital stay, a psychiatric evaluation determined my father has moderate dementia. Heather was very professional and helpful in coordinating my discussion with the doctors and social workers to help me ensure our family could make the most informed decision regarding my dad's care going forward. My entire family is thankful for Heather.
