Heather Hall was the first nurse that I saw once admitted to the VA Hospital and the last nurse I saw after being discharged 13 days later.
I was admitted directly from the ER due to diverticulitis and an abscess. Right off, Heather Hall was extremely attentive and a patient advocate from the start. I realized two hours after my admission to treat an infection/abscess that I would need to have surgery and be left with an ostomy afterwards. This was very shocking and depressing news for a 38-year-old to receive. Immediately Heather came to my side and comforted me. Her bedside manner is one to be admired and praised. She took my mind off things and I knew I was in good hands. When she walks in the room you immediately know that she genuinely cares for your well-being both emotionally and physically.
After my surgery and a stay in the SICU I was sent back to 5-West and to my delight I was then welcomed by Heather. She remembered me and welcomed me back. I immediately felt that my stay would be a great one even though I was in a lot of pain. She always checked on me, to ensure my pain was under control and I was okay physically and mentally. I was admitted for 13 days and I can honestly say this was the best care I could have imagined and Heather was a huge part of that. Even when things were busy, Heather made it seem I was the only patient she had, which I knew was far from the truth. If she told me she would be back at a certain time, like clockwork she was there. Heather Hall is truly a shining light in the organization and deserves all the recognition possible.
