Heather stepped up and strongly advocated for the patient and family to have the physicians come to the room and explain all that was happening with the patient.
Every time I work with Heather and pass by patient rooms that she is in, I am amazed at how kind, compassionate, and present she is with the patient. She has a special gift for teaching patients as she really takes the time to educate them while making them feel comfortable asking questions. She is a team player extraordinaire as she consistently calls me and asks, “May I please do something for you?” One time I needed help turning a patient while trying to bathe them and she jumped in to assist me to turn the patient, and then she offered to help with the full body dressing change. It is so refreshing when I see her working my shift and know that she will be there if I need her. Heather inspires me to go the extra mile for others through the actions she demonstrates every day. Thanks for all you do.
Heather also had the opportunity to take care of a patient and family who did not speak English. The patient was actively dying, and the language barrier was making it more challenging. The family seemed unclear about the prognosis, so Heather stepped up and strongly advocated for the patient and family to have the physicians come to the room and explain all that was happening with the patient. Because of her perseverance, the patient was able to go home with hospice. The family was so appreciative of the exceptional care and advocacy Heather provided. She went above and beyond to make a sad situation bearable for both the patient and family. This is just one example of the exceptional care Heather provides whenever she works her shifts.
