I want to give credit to one of our outstanding L & D nurses, Heather Jones. I was on call last night when a patient, came in for decreased fetal movement. Initially her strip looked good and I told Heather to have the doctor see the patient and send her on her way. The doctor said to watch her for a little while longer and if things looked OK, send her home. Heather called me and said she didn’t like some of the findings on the strip and suggested I keep her overnight. I was reluctant, but agreed.
As time progressed, the baby looked worse, and I finally decided to deliver her by Cesarean this morning. Ultimately, everything turned out well, but if it wasn’t for Heather’s persistence, I really believe that the baby would have died in utero in the next few days. I think she deserves all the credit for this save and a big gold star (DAISY Award)!
