My wife was admitted to Mercy Hospital with a fractured neck and serious side effects from a pain medication administered as a result of the injury. She was placed on PCU-2. She had been on PCU-2 two other times in the past couple of years for toe amputations, femoral bypass surgeries, and sepsis. Heather Klauer cared for my wife's wounds during her first two admissions as well as provided follow-up care during her long healing process. The care she provided was excellent and it was provided with genuine kindness and concern for us as individuals. Not only did she help heal the body, but she helped heal the spirit. While my wife's last admission did not require wound care, Heather still visited my wife regularly when she was on the floor caring for other patients. She brought a smile to my wife's face and a bright spot into her day. She genuinely cared about my wife's well-being. Heather also was there for support when my son and I received a gloomy report from the surgeon as to what the future held for my wife's recovery. She provided hope. Heather is a very special person and we fell she should be recognized as a person that is sincerely there for the total well-being of her patients.
