Our son was born with a lot of medical issues. It was a terrifying time for us. Heather Krzykowski, RN was there for us from the moment he was born until the day of his discharge and did such an amazing job caring for us as a family. When he was in her care, it was just like a family member was with him. You can't express what it is like to have your baby in a hospital setting, very ill, and not be able to be there for him 24 hours a day. It was so hard to leave him each day but knowing that Heather was there was the next best thing to us being by his side.
She was there for us for the great happy moments and the scary and sad moments during his 2-month hospital stay, giving us support through it all. She gave us so many hugs when needed and shed tears with us too. She wasn't scheduled to work the day of his discharge but changed her schedule so she could be there with us for that special day. Now, almost 1 year later, we still frequently reflect on those difficult early days and what a huge difference her outstanding care made to us.
At 6 months of age, our son had heart surgery in Milwaukee and was again very sick. While Milwaukee did a fine job caring for our son, we constantly found ourselves saying, "We wish Heather was here." She cared for our son with her heart and treated him like part of her family. She even came to visit us in Milwaukee on his surgery day and gave us hugs. Heather is an amazing, compassionate and wonderful nurse with great skill and a kind heart.
