She understood what I was going through, was honest with me, and comforted my worry.
After two ER visits with our daughter, she was admitted to Pediatrics. We have never had any of our children admitted to a hospital before so we didn’t know what to expect. Our daughter was scared after having two IV attempts, an oxygen tube taped to her face, and other numerous medical things performed on her. She was placed in isolation so she couldn’t leave the room. She just wanted to go home to her room, toys, and siblings.
We were greeted by Heather the minute we arrived to the unit. Heather welcomed my husband and me and answered all our questions. This helped the anxiety and panic I’d felt over the past week start to settle with our daughter’s illness. We never felt like a patient with Heather; we felt like a friend. Heather had toys sitting out for our daughter to play with. Our daughter didn’t like the crib so Heather went the extra mile to bring in a bed that I could sit in with my daughter. Heather then came in with extra treats and toys to ease our daughter’s worry and fear. This helped our daughter so much that whenever Heather walked into the room, our daughter would get excited and allow Heather to hold her. Our daughter felt so safe with her.
On the day of discharge, we’d had a rough night the night before, I had little sleep, and was very emotional. Heather walked in and seeing her familiar face was the most comforting feeling. She understood what I was going through, was honest with me, and comforted my worry. Heather was an advocate for our daughter. This little letter doesn’t come close to allowing me to explain all of what Heather did for us.
